Do something different this summer ... take on the 24-hour 3 Peaks Challenge!
Climb the highest mountains in the UK all in 24hours. Our
tried and tested formula will give you a great chance of success in
this legendary challenge. The 24-hours includes the walking and driving
time, but we use our experience and equipment to make sure you are in
the best condition for each of the mountains.
Due
to an expanded programme of French
Adventure Weekends this weekend trip is now only available as a
3 Peaks
Challenge Self-guide.
THE
ITINERARY
Thursday
Depart London and drive to northern England. A long drive; you will
arrive at our destination late at night (hopefully in time for last
orders!). We stay overnight at a comfortable and friendly village hostel.
Friday
Start the day with views of the Yorkshire Dales and a hearty cooked
breakfast, then continue the scenic drive north towards Ben Nevis. We
pass by the shores of Loch Lomond and through the majestic Glen Coe
valley, towards the foot of Ben Nevis and the town of Fort William.
There is an opportunity to explore the town and make last minute preparations
for the challenge.
At
around 5pm, we will start the event and begin the 1344m ascent of Ben
Nevis. The walk up and down takes around 5 – 6 hours and will
have you arriving at the mini-buses just after dark at about 11pm. Next
comes the drive through the night, returning to England and onto the
Lake District.
Saturday
It’s an early start, departing to climb Scafell Pike in the dark.
A beautiful walk rewarded by watching dawn break over England as you
make your way to the summit. The round walk is about 4 hours and needs
concentration on the navigation near the top. Next comes the drive to
Wales for the final leg of the challenge - Mount Snowdon.
Starting
at about 1pm you will have 4-hours to complete the 24-hour challenge.
Taking the direct approach, the Pyg Track climbs steeply to reach the
summit at 1,085m. Take-in the breathtaking views and bask in the glory
of completion. The challenge can finish at the top, or you can include
the descent to base for the full acheivement – and a well-deserved
cold beer or cup of tea!
You can then drive to your bunkhouse base and give everyone the chance
to rest, re-hydrate and clean up before heading to the local pub for
a big celebratory 3-course dinner and party evening. You can all sport
your new “I did the 3 Peaks” T-shirt which is provided.
There’s sure to be a few tales to swap and some aching legs to
tend, but the sense of satisfaction and achievement will provide a great
buzz!
Sunday
Relax! Enjoy a cooked breakfast which could be followed by a little
gentle walk to ease the legs back into it! Then start your return to
London and ensure you have plenty of stops to stretch the legs.
THE BUNKHOUSE ACCOMMODATION
The Bunkhouse provides a comfortable level of accommodation for groups
with multi-share rooms each with their own en-suite toilet and shower
rooms. The traditional Welsh stone barns have been carefully converted
to provide spacious accommodation, the patio area is perfect for unwinding
and the new barbeque house is a great feature which proves popular with
all of our groups!
It
is centrally heated throughout and all bedding is provided in clean,
wide and stable bunk beds (towels not provided). There are 4 sleeping
rooms, with a total capacity of 28 – in rooms of 4, 6, 8 and 10.
There
is a large, fully-equipped kitchen where we provide breakfast and dinner
– and other facilities include a drying room, gardens and the
barbeque house which we use to enjoy an open fire in the specially designed
and very sociable little chalet … the perfect venue for a few
drinks at the end of a hard day of activities!
